Making sure that women are educated enough to claim their rights, and are supported by others so they can live with safety, respect and equality.

Who Is Your Hero? Why?

Ranjana Gaur, the international women’s activist, is my hero. Her perseverance and support of women—even when no one else wanted to help her—will have a lasting impact on society.

What Is Your Favorite Sound?

Laughter, the sound of joy and pleasure—a contrast to the lives of many women in Varanasi.

What project would a laptop help you with? Give a short description.

I work at the Sathya Sai Maa Shakti Dayini Women’s Empowerment Center, which opened in Varanasi in October 2014.

What do you love about this project?

We help women who sometimes feel they have no voice. A voice is powerful: it tells people who you are, what you like, and what you don’t. We want women to find their voice, and speak up.
