What Are You Most Passionate About?
I’m most passionate about women issues, specifically issues related to mothers and mothering. This is because because often times mothers are underappreciated. Mothers sacrifice their bodies, independence and sometimes their careers in order to raise their children. I love mothers and appreciate all that they do.
Who Is Your Hero? Why?
Mothers are my heroes because they give up so much. The job of “Stay-at-home-mom” is an unpaid one. There is no vacation time, no days off and no benefits package. Mothers invest time to teach their children crucial life lessons while providing a safe, financially sound home for them. Mothers that always sacrifice without any immediate benefit will always be admirable to me.
What Is Your Favorite Sound?
I love the sound of the ocean and the sound of wind. I feel like I am able to relax, clear my head, and think when I hear these sounds.
How Would A Laptop Help You?
I am constantly participating in projects that are geared towards moms, new moms, mothering, etc. My group Mommyhood organized a diaper drive where we collected diapers for women who cannot afford them – teen moms, those who live in poverty, etc. We are always looking for ways to volunteer. A laptop will help me organize and keep the public informed with what we are doing. I am also in the process of writing a book for expectant moms so they know what they can expect as they begin their journey. A lot of women feel overwhelmed when they have children, especially if they are a first time mom. My goal is to educate and inform them. A laptop would also help me host workshops, such as one I previously hosted; WOMB: Workshop on Mother and Baby.
What do you love about this project?
I love everything about this project! Most importantly, I love that working with mothers helps them to feel visible. It gives them so much confidence to know they are not alone and they can achieve anything they want to do even while they have children.
