What Are You Most Passionate About?
Ending the vicious cycle of brown bodies in the streets laid down by police brutality. I want to see other paths to making our lives better and our communities safer.
Who Is Your Hero? Why?
My parents. Being very afrocentric, they always told me stories or made me watch documentaries on the Civil Rights movement. Growing up in D.C, I was there at the Million Man March and countless other rallies and protests held in the Nation’s Capitol. They are the ones who really got me involved in my work.
What Is Your Favorite Sound?
The sound of a good chant in the streets that starts small, but the more people hear it, the sound grows and gets bigger and louder.
What Project would a laptop help you with?
Our “War on Children” campaign. Right now we are in the midst of launching a project on getting resource officers out of schools.
How Would A Laptop Help You?
The laptop would help me get research on arrests in schools, what areas these officers are in, and info on arrest rates with officers not in schools. It would also allow me to organize and present information to different groups and communities where forums and presentations could be given. This would help spread the word and get more people involved. I could sync my laptop to my phone making it easier to check my calendar and also edit things on the fly. Being that there is a lot of travel involved in my work, bringing the laptop out when I have some down time would help me get tasks done in a timely fashion.
What do you love about this project?
Being a change maker in someone’s life just like how my stepfather was for me. I see a young version of myself in these children. I see my future kids. That’s what I love.
