What Are You Most Passionate About?
Working with my community, especially women. I help them become aware so they can fight for their rights and be self-dependent, without any shackles holding them back.
Who Is Your Hero? Why?
My role model is late the Gopal Singh who was my mentor. I was a widow, and the sole bread-earner of my family when I began to work under him. His way of working with the community still inspires me today.
What Is Your Favorite Sound?
I love the sound of Bhajan (chanting). It keeps my mind at peace while I am praying.
What Project Would A Laptop Help You With?
I help our farming community gain knowledge about their rights – for example compensation policies when they have crop damage. I also help illiterate people complete grant applications and track of their application status. With a laptop, I will also be able to train others in computer literacy.
How Would A Laptop Help You?
A laptop would help me update information about government policies when I conduct meetings with my community. It would also assist my field centre to keep track of account records. As you can see from my pictures doing this by hand can get really tough. Lastly, it help me become more computer savvy; a skill I will pass onto my children and peers.
What do you love about this project?
The idea of empowering people with access to information, which is a fundamental right in itself. I personally believe that knowledge is the greatest power.
What Languages do you speak?
Marwadi and Hindi.
Given a choice, would you prefer a Mac or PC?
Either one would be a blessing.
