What Project Would A Laptop Help You With?
Rights for Children
Short Description Of Project
In rural India people are often not educated in children’s rights. The harsh life and patriarchal societal attitudes contribute to children being abused and often expected to take a role as adults. Child sexual abuse in India is still very high. A major contributing factor is the lack of awareness regarding the rights that every child has. Children are not respected and protected as there is not the awareness of this basic right by many adults in rural areas, and the children themselves are also not aware of their basic rights. This project aims to educate communities in the rights of the child, particularly in relation to sexual matters so that the cycle of abuse can be broken.
It is based on the understanding that over time education can shift societal attitudes, and that those being educated become the teachers and examples for future generations.
To support the work of this project I am also completing my bachelor degree in social work where I am in my second year. This degree will also allow me to work individually with child victims and to understand how to bring the messages of this project more clearly to communities.
How Would A Laptop Help You?
Having a laptop would be a huge assistance. It would assist me in my schoolwork, and I could generate reports about the project and connect globally with other people aligned with this cause.
