My work with women’s empowerment and literacy. I both founded and work with the Women’s Association of Sadampoini. The Women’s Association consists of 35 women. Their average education level is 5th grade, 20% are literate.
Who Is Your Hero? Why?
At this moment, my admiration for Barack Obama has reached heroic standards. I appreciate his calm leadership, hit reassuring words and his ability to create and maintain admiration worldwide. He is a brave leader who overcame obstacles I can only imagine.
What Is Your Favorite Sound?
Laughter.
What Project would a laptop help you with?
I am working with a Let Girls Learn Peace Corps grant to reuse and restore a former hospital space in our village into the Women’s Information and Resource Center at Sadampoini, Anjouan. I am working with Arizona State University to produce Solarspell devices which will allow smartphones, tablets and computers to access via wifi a localized digital library. The addition of donated laptops would free my very limited funds to buy additional books and solar panels.
How would a laptop help you?
All laptops will be used to equip the Women’s Information and Resource center.
What do you love about this project?
This project is being led and managed by the village women. I love that it will be dedicated to the ongoing pursuit of education.
